May 8, 2010 // Wedding
We're in Destin, FL this week! Shontelle is my cousin, more like sister. She and Dustin were married here at Sandestin Hilton Resort. I'm super lucky to get to do 2-3 Destination Weddings a year, but when it's family, it's extra special! My beautiful wife and sister were bridesmaids and Mark, my brother in law, was in charge of music. All went as planned and the weather was amazing! It was soooo good to be with family for a while. We'll post more pics after they're finished!!!

April 29, 2010 // Tutorial
Ask anyone taking photography seriously these days what their 3 favorite tools are for creating great images and most likely you'd here the word Photoshop on everyone's list. It's probably the one thing that most current professionals will agree on. With so many brands and versions to choose from like Nikon vs. Canon, Epson vs. Canon, Sigma vs Tamron, Millers vs. WHCC, the options seem endless. However you won't ever see a pro struggling on whether to purchase Photoshop or Corel Painter.

I love photoshop and honestly, probably wouldn't have chosen to do what I do without it. PS opened up the doors for the photography world to mesh seamlessly with all other art mediums and in turn, allowed people like myself and many other amazing photographers all over the world to take advantage of it. Sure, the best Photoshop will always be as little Photoshop as possible, most would agree on that. But when it comes down to it, PS training is just as important as photography technique itself.

Soooooo, with this, over time I'll be revealing some of my favorite attributes of PS right here on the blog. Between training videos and simple examples, I'll be showing people of all skill levels how to enhance their images using multiple versions of PS. I currently use and love PS CS3. Here are a few images comparing before and after. Hope to see you back soon!

I was sitting here trying to think of something prophetic to say about today's ever popular engagement session, but found myself staring at my cool new calculator instead.

I think most photographers these days would agree that taking part in an engagement shoot is a very, very good idea. It does more, however, than just give you a bunch of fun photos to look at. First, it offers your photographer the chance to get you to know you and your fiance a bit. Great wedding photos boil down to a great relationship b/w client and photographer. Other than the initial "client meeting," the engagement session is the first real chance to get a relationship with your photographer off to a good start! In my opinion it's less a photo shoot and more a hang out session. I rely on the personalities of my clients to lead the photo shoot. Typically, they're style will reflect heavily in the end product.

Secondly, the session gives you a chance to see how your photographer likes to work. You'll learn a lot in two hours about the professional that you've chosen. Don't be afraid to ask questions either. It's best that you know as much about the "process" as possible. Consider the session "picture practice." Take advantage of any time you have with your photographer prior to your wedding. Your photos will benefit in the end!!
